Other Studio Architects were appointed to explore extension options for traditional C18th cottage by the coast in Weybourne, North Norfolk.
As part of the design, OSA removed a series of poorly constructed extensions, creating one single contemporary addition which included the kitchen, pantry, study and store. The design used the opportunity to flood the new addition with natural light offering both direct access and views over the garden. The material pallet of flint and expressed concrete lintels references the existing house, yet used in a contemporary manner creates a new chapter in the house’s history.
Two options were proposed: Option A which looked to utilised the existing foundations, keeping ground works to a minimum and Option B which looked to maximise the extended area, offering a larger kitchen space and a small breakfast area.
