Surrey Coach House
Our proposals have sought to rework the ground floor footprint, opening it up at the rear to create a large family space which embraces the garden, and creating a modern garage, utility and bike store onto the driveway at the front, allowing the house to keep pace with busy family life.
Working with the existing poorly conceived additions, we’ve proposed a single continuous wrap around extension at ground floor. This approach works with our design philosophy to demolish less, saves money and minimises additional built area encroaching into the garden.
The proposals have been designed as contemporary yet sensitive, achieved through the use of a material pallet sympathetic to the original coach house, helping to knit together the old and the new. The section of traditional materials include; charred timber cladding (a natural weather protection for timber), zinc (often found in Pugin’s Paris) and London Stock Brick.
The contemporary proposals aim to reflecting a new step in the buildings history, but also the 21st century in which they are proposed.
