Tonbridge

Other Studio Architects have been appointed to extend and reconfigure a 1950’s detached house in Tonbridge, Kent.

The project looks to transform and modernise the ground floor of the property, creating an open plan kitchen, living and dining space and an additional study area. The proposals have been achieved through the reconfiguration of the original layout, and conversion of the existing garage, alongside the addition of a new rear extension. Increased glazing within the new extension will allow the house to open for the first time to a long garden, whilst a series of roof lights help to bring natural daylight into the depth of the space.

Externally the design has been developed to be contemporary yet sympathetic to the existing house, taking cues from the original design. The brickwork will be closely matched, with a half solider course along the extension roof gables and a full solider course sits above the proposed windows and doors, both referencing the architecture found at the front of the house.
